Rebreathers are not new and have been used for firefighting, mine safety, mountaineering and military applications for a long time. What is new is the availability of reliable, cheap electronics and good oxygen sensors. There are three basic types of rebreather – oxygen rebreathers, semi-closed circuit rebreathers, and closed circuit rebreathers.
