Calendar celebrates the oceans
A high profile project to celebrate the oceans and draw attention to urgent marine conservation issues has united 12 of the very best, award-winning underwater photographers in the world.
Inspired by UK shark and marine conservation organisation, Bite-Back, each photographer has donated a breathtaking image along with individual commentary on the exploitation of the marine environment to create a unique 2009 calendar.
Underwater images from around the world including sharks, dolphins, sea dragons, turtles and puffer fish, showcase the true beauty beneath the waves whilst insight from the photographers highlights key issues challenging the oceans.
Contributor Brian Skerry said: “Beneath the peaceful surface lies an ocean rapidly becoming a shadow of its former self. Pollution, climate change and over-fishing have conspired to drive the world’s oceans to their collective knees.”
Bite-Back plans for the calendar to motivate a change in fortune for the oceans by encouraging consumer to reconsider the fish they buy and for retailers to rethink the fish they sell.
The 2009 Bite-Back calendar costs £9.99 and is available on-line at www.bite-back.com
